Spring transforms the Cheerio Halt Gardens into a beautifulscenery of blooming the azaleas, cherry blossoms, camellias, hydrangea, irises and foxgloves. Cheerio Halt Gardens is ideal for guests to take leisurely walks, have intimate picnics, scrumptious tea and scones or for the avid fisherman, fly fishing. The Tea Garden is open from Wednesdays to Sundays.
Sheila Thompson (also known as Box Thompson) started Cheerio Halt Gardens in 1946 with a minuscule amount of seeds, plants and flower cuttings. Sheila Thompson received 6 blossoming cherry trees in the 1950’s by the Emperor of Japan’s physician, who visited Cheerio Halt and claimed that it was one of the most beautiful gardens that he had seen. The garden is famous for hundreds of flowering cherry trees.
