The Modjadji Cycad Forest was named after Queen Modjadji. Queen Modjadji known as Rain Queen fled from Zimbabwe and settled in Limpopo. The Queen was famed for her magical powers of rainmaking in the Limpopo area. The reserve is well-known for its rare Cycads and that are said to date back to the era of dinosaurs.
Guests wanting to explore the forest must do so on foot as you will be able to view the flora and fauna and truly engross yourself in this enchanting forest experience. Guests can also enjoy having a picnic at one of the many picnic sites in the reserve. The forest is home to not only rare cycads but also; Monkeys, Bushbuck, Impala, Dassies, Bushpig, Impala and Wildebeest.
The Reserve covers over 530 hectares of mountainous terrain and plays host to one of the world's largest concentration of Transvenosus Encephalartos, more commonly known as the Modjadji palm. The Modjadji palm can grow to amazing heights of 13m and when producing seeds the cones it can weigh up to 35kg.
Guests can arrange guided tours of the reserve, Modjadji Village and the Royal Kraal.
